Glidex® is non-flammable, non-corrosive, safe to use and provides long-term
effectiveness. Glidex® is not water soluble and therefore cannot be washed away
by rainfall or melting snow.
Glidex® is a specially formulated synthetic lubrication that is quite fluid,
yet remains in place once it becomes "static". This "flowability" enables
Glidex® to be easily applied by brushing, pouring, or spraying with a
handsprayer. The treated surface is environmentally friendly and will not stain
surrounding surface areas. It provides an adherent barrier that will keep metal
components continuously lubricated and offer protection against mild ice
formation. Dust and dirt will not build-up onto the treated areas and it will
not "harden" with age. Ideal protection during wet weather or in inherently wet
locations with poor drainage.
Glidex® is a better lubricant than other methods such as oil and liquid
graphite because it stays on switches much longer. Depending on how often
switches are used, a Glidex® treated train switch can operate from one week to
months before another treatment. Other lubricants, oils or greases need more
frequent applications requiring crews to reapply lubricants more often. In
addition, other methods need to be diluted.

Reduces Maintenance Time, Increases
Performance, Lasts Longer & Doesn’t “Crust”.
Glidex® is a track switch agent used for the lubrication and anti-icing of
railroad switch slide plates, throw rods and other moving parts. Additionally,
overhead crane rails, door pockets, slide chairs, couplers and moveable bridges
can be treated. Glidex® was developed specifically for moderate climates which
experience heavy frost and never-ending wet weather. Glidex® is not water
soluble therefore will not be affected by rain and moisture.
Does your current lubricant collect dirt and dust? Graphite and heavy greases
are well known for packing hard, getting “crusty” and difficult to remove from
switch area. Not so with Glidex®. It stays moist for weeks or months, even in
extreme temperatures or wet conditions, without drying out or decomposing.
Glidex® is a better lubricant than other methods such as oil and liquid
graphite because it stays on switches much longer. Depending on how
often switches are used, a Glidex® treated switch can operate from one week to
months before another treatment. Other lubricants need more frequent
applications requiring crews to reapply lubricants more often. In addition,
other methods need to be diluted. In the case of oil, it turns into a greasy
substance at certain temperatures.
